So here's the details. I went to the university today to pick up my school ID and then met up with my two friends Alannah and Alexandra. We went to a couple of random fruit and vegetable venders and bought the makings for guacamole. 4 Haas Avocados were only about 3$? and the rest of the ingredients were even cheaper. After we got everything we went to Alannah's house and I made the guac and Alannah made us some quesadillas....Alexandra cleaned the vegetables haha. She said she can't cut things...Anyways. It was all delicious. We made a TON of guac and ate it all. So good. Afterwards we all chilled on Alannah's bed and swapped music and just hung out. While we're chilling Steve emails us saying he's coming back!! His university decided he could come back during the court hearing he had today. So great.
Around 3pm we took a taxi to my house and met up with two other girls. We then walked to the Festival de Mascaras in Barva. Which is just the festival of masks in English, but it has a lot more than just masks. We get there and people are hitting each other with inflated pig bladders and heavy bags of rice... I asked my friend Oscar what the significance was and he said he had know idea... Unfortunately he didn't warn me about the pig bladders prior and we found out after we got there. My friend Alexandra is a vegetarian and was completely freaked out by the pig bladders everywhere and we left really quickly... it was also 4pm and the festival wasn't really too busy yet. However, it led us to another awesome part of my day.
I had seen on facebook yesterday that the vegan restaurant, The Loving Hut, was having some live music and poetry reading tonight around 4-7pm. So we went there instead. It was great! The people there are so easy to speak Spanish to, just because they're really nice and really patient. I don't get tongue tied and nervous when I speak with them so it's so nice, the whole place is just really chill and my Spanish rolls out much better. I plan to practice my Spanish there.... I split a delicious piece of Key-lime pie with my friend and ordered a plate of fruit. The music was easily the best part and all of the singers were absolutely amazing. Also I managed to avoid going to the bars at 3pm....I don't know if it's just me but that seems pretty early to go to a bar. Instead I got to enjoy live entertainment and great food. Also, I woke up this morning feeling like I needed to hug someone so I literally hugged everyone that I hung out with today...It was nice haha.
We did share some of the guacamole with Alannah's family. They all LOVED it. =)
My little roommate made an appearance again last night!! I found him hanging out under my bed. This is totally fine with me....but it's in our roommate agreement that I never find him actually in my bed. I was opening my little drawer on my nightstand today (where I keep little stuff like bows, my ring, watch, etc) and I reached in to grab a bow, pulled it out and a super sticky spider web was woven around my bow and this big spider came out with it....I almost killed the spider but someone told me one time that to kill a spider in the Native American culture (even today) is like an insult to their society. It's considered bad luck. So I left it alone...but shooed it on the floor in hopes that my lizard friend eats it.
That was my day! Tomorrow I'm super pumped because we're going to some volcanoes and a biological reserve/zoo kind of place!! Can't wait. When we get back I might see the new Batman with some of my friends...also American's....from a different group. Oh and this girl from that group lives right by me and I guess her host mom told her she can use the kitchen whenever she wants, use whatever is in the kitchen, etc...and their house is HUGE for Costa Rica...so they have a lot of supplies that most homes here don't have. I'm going to help her cook some dishes for a potluck she's going to on Monday! Woo!
Buenas Noches mis amigos!
