Around lunch time Stephanie (one of my host sisters) brought home this really cute cake for my mama tica. She loves the color pink....if you can't tell in the photos below haha. The cake was so good! A friend of Stephanie made it and it was a chocolate double layer cake with gooey caramel lining one of the layers. Even the icing was perfect and complimented my cup of coffee perfectly. It was so good.
After lunch and cake my mama tica and I took the bus to the central park for some shopping. I told my host family about how I crochet and how my mom crochets, and how my grandma knits....and how my great grandma crocheted as well! They were impressed to say the least. My host mom wants to learn now haha. We went to search for a craft store and we found one! I'm planning on make this really ugly sweater vest from small granny squares. I've never made granny squares before but my first attempt is below! If I decide that the sweater vest is too ugly, too ugly for even an ugly sweater party, then I can just turn the granny squares into hot pads. Whatever happens these squares will be put to use. I' m not making over 40 squares for nothing. After that we walked around for awhile doing errands she needed to get done.
We came back to the house around 4pm and I watched the Olympics with my papa tico and had a really good conversation for a long time. It was really nice. Today my heart broke for him. He's had heart problems for 7 years and finally had his operation right before I came. He can't work because he's still trying to get better, which according to my host mom he hates. She told me all about it today while we were shopping. He was an accountant and absolutely loved his job. Now he is confined to the home and can only go on daily walks. He is so restless...he does anything to keep busy. Today he was feeling especially tired and sick apparently. I couldn't even tell. He was acting like his usual self: always happy, and extremely kind.
Here are some pictures from my day! Tomorrow should be awesome too but I can write about that when it gets here.
Haha I love this action shot. I'm not sure why my papa tico is blowing them out too but it makes the photo better.
My host parents are so cute
